The Clothesline Project is a visual display addressing the issue of violence against women while bringing awareness about the reality of violence. Students will be able to express their emotions by decorating a shirt that reflects on the victim/survivor/ally’s personal experience or a phrase that promotes violence awareness. Afterward, the shirts will be hung up on the outskirts of the walkway between the commons and the 2nd floor of the Student Union. The clothesline will be viewed by others as testimony to the problem. When decorating the shirts are color-coded to highlight different types of violence:
White represents women who died because of violence
Yellow or beige represents battered or assaulted women
Red, pink, and orange are for survivors of rape and sexual assault
Blue and green t-shirts represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse
Purple or lavender represents women attacked because of their sexual orientation
Black is for women attacked for political reasons
- Clubs will receive SA community service if 5 club members donate a plain, blank shirt (no graphics or designs) and/or SA participation credit if 5 club members decorate a shirt
